The Certificate of Single Status is an official document issued by the Municipality that certifies a person's marital status, specifically that of being unmarried. The certificate lists the person's personal details and address.

Validity and requirements for the application

The Certificate of Single Status is legally valid for 6 months and can be requested in any Italian municipality , regardless of place of residence.
To submit the request you will need:

  • date and place of birth
  • Municipality of residence

Be careful of dates not present in the archives

It may be that the person's information is not available in the Registry Office's archives, perhaps because they have moved abroad. In this case, the certificate cannot be issued; in this case, a civil status certificate will be required.
